While work has changed, leadership skills have changed, too.\u00a0Adaptability in leadership is the key to long-term effectiveness, stability and lasting success.<\/p>\n<h2>Qualities and Limitations of Traditional Leadership<\/h2>\n<p>Traditional leadership is\u00a0authoritative, in which\u00a0leaders\u00a0assert control from the top down and expect unwavering compliance from those below.\u00a0It&#8217;s characterized by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Centralized\u00a0hierarchy<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong>\u00a0Leadership holds\u00a0all\u00a0the power and control in decision-making and strategic planning.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Top-down authority:<\/strong>\u00a0Leaders closely manage their team to direct each employee, determining the tasks every individual will do, how\u00a0they should\u00a0complete\u00a0them and when\u00a0they should\u00a0finish\u00a0them.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lack of collaboration:<\/strong>\u00a0Leaders make decisions\u00a0unilaterally\u00a0with\u00a0little to no input from the team.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Internal promotions:<\/strong>\u00a0Leaders\u00a0prioritize\u00a0promoting\u00a0employees from within the company\u00a0over seeking\u00a0qualified individuals\u00a0elsewhere, often rewarding loyalty over competence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This leadership style presents numerous limitations, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Rigidity:<\/strong>\u00a0Traditional leadership is highly\u00a0inflexible,\u00a0and the structure is rigid.
