Spring program for high school students

Program for high-school students:

 

Call for application:

Washington Istanbul Institute is organizing a leadership program in Washington DC for American freshman, sophomore, and junior high-school students. A limited number of qualified senior high-school students will also be considered.

 

Date:

 

This 3 days program is designed to equip the American high-school students with leadership skills and uncover their leadership potential.

 

The program will be held in Washington DC with workshops on leadership skills and visits to different institutions.

 

Price: the program costs $750, to cover the workshops, visits, and a WIL certificate of participation. Students are responsible for their accommodation and travel arrangements.

 

Scholarships: Scholarships will be given to qualified students in need and merit base. If you want to be considered for scholarship please send us your transcripts, a cover letter (not exceeding 400-words), and an essay on the topic: “What does leadership mean for you?”

 

Day 1:

10:00am – 12:30pm – 1st workshop: Storytelling. Today everyone has a story and an idea, but you need to have the skills to construct your idea, present it, and make others listen (Dr. Erdoan Shipoli – Washington Institute for Leadership / Georgetown University)

1:30pm – 4:00pm – 2nd workshop: Engage. We understand that we need to get engaged if we want to change the world around us. But, at the same time engaging at our school, at our community, and nationally, will help us develop our skills, increase the chances for a brighter career, and make a change. This is why engaging is so important (TBD)

7:00pm – 9:00 – University brainstorming session with students from top universities who will share their experience in those universities, the rising majors, as well as tips on how to prepare your university application.

 

Day 2:

10:00am – 12:30pm – 1st workshop: Visit the Google/Facebook/Twitter/Microsoft office in DC to learn more about how they recruit people, what skills are they looking for, and networking (TBD).

1:30pm – 4:00pm – 2nd workshop: Visit an embassy in DC to learn more about what diplomats do in a foreign country, what skills do you need to have to be a good diplomat, and develop negotiation skills (TBD).

7:00pm – 9:00 – Career development brainstorming session with people from the professional world, academia, government, and international organizations, where the participants will have a chance to brainstorm about their career vision and how to develop their careers: internships, fellowships, summer/winter programs, exchange programs, as well as university majors.

 

Day 3:

10:00am – 12:30pm – 1st workshop: Thinking by design: how to think outside the box, structure your thoughts, build your team, and follow up (Lina Zdruli – World Bank, Georgetown University)

1:30pm – 4:00pm – 2nd workshop: Leadership: develop skills to be a leader, motivate others, and initiate positive change (TBD)

7:00pm – 9:00 – Professional development session with professionals of professional development where the students will discuss about professional presence, how to be more professionally ready, and how to develop themselves.
